Prix? moyen - cher (entrée gratuite jusque 16h) Quand? U-bahn: Rathaus Neukölln Klunkerkranich is The Place To Be in Neukölln! With such an incredible panoramic view of Berlin, no need to wonder what its success is based on. Entrance is usually free until 4 pm, then you might have to pay 3 or 4 EUR to get in. You will then enter in a kind of biergarten, but on a rooftop terrace with the nicest view of Berlin in the neighbourhood. No worries, there is also an inside bar, in case the unpredictable weather of Berlin suddenly decides to surprise you. The bar itself is actually situated inside the small room, which is nicely filled with colorful pillows and cushions and lit with small lanterns and old chandeliers. Like usual biergartens it looks like the place was constructed with diverse recovered material and it has an eclectic decoration. It’s warm and friendly. Not too fancy, but cozy and welcoming. On the terrace, almost everything is built in wood, tables stand on different levels, the platforms are uneven and it make the installation look a bit convoluted; and there is even a children’s corner. See? When we tell you that Berlin is so children-friendly. There is a giant sandpit and a couple of toys to keep the kids busy while mommy and daddy enjoy a cold one in the middle of the afternoon. At night, the place regularly turns into a vibrant party. Everyday, something different happens. Concerts, music bands, DJs and other kinds of animation, that place is lit! However, at night, get ready to queue for a while to get in. Klunkerkranich does enjoy some success and, let’s be real, it is one of the best bars in Neukölln! Of course, my opinion is purely subjective, but go see for yourself and make up your mind! One thing though, the place is not so easy to find. When you get out of the U-bahn station Rathaus Neukölln, go in front of the mall Arcaden and get in, either through the main door or, if the place is closed, walk along the left side of the building and you will find a lateral door. The door takes you straight to the elevators. If not, find the elevators and go to the last floor, or penultimate one. There is no sign leading to the Klunkerkranich, but it really is up there. You will then arrive in a parking lot, that is it! The parking lot is the entrance to Klunkerkranich. But, as I said, on busy and animated nights, you will probably have to queue for some (or a long) time. How Much? average - expensive (free entry until 4 pm) When? Bite Club is more of a concept than an actual place. It gathers a series of food trucks, usually in the old warehouses neighbourhood alongside the Spree, and right next to the Badeschiff swimming pool. I understood on their website that the food trucks sometimes gather somewhere else in the city but here, I will only talk about my own experience, along the Spree. The place itself has got some charm and is somehow unusual, just like basically everything in Berlin. Behind these old warehouses, on a small plain patio, a dozen of food trucks parked and started to serve food and snacks. And you’ve got options. Vietnamese cuisine, Italian, African, vegetarian burgers of 100% Argentinian beef burgers, vegan snacks or pastries, you will undoubtedly find something you like! What I find so nice in the concept is that you can enter freely and try a little bit of everything. The event generally lasts all day and it is really enjoyable to spend a couple of hours there with some friends. However, since the Bite Club knows quite a big success, the small patio might get rapidly crowded and you should expect to have to queue for a while before you can order your food. In front of the patio, there is a very old boat and you might want to think about it twice before getting on it, but no worries, it’s actually a club! The inside part is organized like a dancing club I would say, and on the open air top part of the boat, there are some tables, benches, a DJ and a space that you can use as a dancefloor. Dancing in the middle of the day on a boat, that’s the spirit of Berlin! Take a quick look on your right and you will see the Badeschiff, this really cool open air swimming pool! So, I do recommend you go and visit the Bite Club to spend e relaxed afternoon with your friends and try the lovely taste of Berlin. Kreuzberg Eichenstrasse 4, 12435, Berlin How? S-bahn: Ostbahnhof (S5, S7, S75, S3) Yaam is a kind of biergarten, this very popular concept in Berlin. But it is also a food market and a beach bar. I honestly don’t think that a regular tourist would think about going there to see the place or have a drink. At first glance, someone who does not know the place could feel a bit uncomfortable just seeing what the entrance looks like. From the outside, you can only see a steep dusty terrain, where a couple of wooden infrastructures have been built with debris and recycled materials. Even if this is actually exactly the principle of biergartens, this one does look like it is meant to host guests. Well, it is quite the contrary! It is once again on of those places, where you need to go behind those ugly walls and almost abandoned buildings to discover a whole new world. Take the narrow path on the right of the warehouse and you will feel the sand under your feet without even realizing it! Behind this big building, you will find a piece of Jamaica greeting you with reggaeton tunes. Wooden tables, benches, parasols, a children’s corner (because everything is kid-friendly in Berlin!), a ping pong table, a bar that serves colorful cocktails, send in between your toes and even a treehouse! That is the whole other world I’m talking about. So, yeah, that’s not really a surprise either that this will be the place where you can easily get what you want to get a bit high, if you know what I mean. You will quickly identify who you can do business with, I won’t get into any details. The place is not so well-known. The few tourists you will see there were probably accompanying a tour guide who wanted to show them the alternative face of Berlin. Very often, “real Berliners”, as people call them, go there. There is also a dance club inside, where concerts are sometimes organized (take a look at their website, for more information about the program). So, the Yaam is a very nice place to hang out and have a drink in the afternoon or have a cool night out with your friends. But it is also a key-spot to observe street art. Although to actually enjoy it, I’d recommend you cross the bridge to step back a notch and have a better view.

I only went there once. I was in the neighborhood, the place looked welcoming so I went in. The room is beautifully decorated, it is very simple, the colors are light and the tables made of wood. I sat at the big community table which was made of solid wood (the wooden planks were roughly crafted, that gave a rustic appearance to the piece of furniture in the middle of a very modern environment). Drinks and snacks are a bit expensive, but everything I tried was delicious. It is not actually that expensive, but being a student, I cannot afford to go to this kind of place very often. The front windows are all open when the weather permits it, which brings a ton of light inside. It feels like being in an bright open veranda directly on the street. I strongly recommend the place! The place where I went is in Prenzlauer Berg, but they actually have three shops in town (one is in the area of the central station - Hauptbahnhof - and the other one is in Friedrichshain). I discovered that place in February and since then, I have spent many hours there, working on my computer. It is a quiet, nice and relaxed place to hang out. The coffee and the snacks they offer are all of good quality. Every day, you can try homemade cakes or cheesecakes. They also offer breakfast and brunch menus. The place was probably arranged with old pieces of furnitures, that were collected across Berlin, but the inside is welcoming. Old books pile up in all corners of the room and sometimes even hide the cupboards they stand on. It is a literary and mysterious universe. Just like an old bookshop where you could find ageless and old books that have probably travelled to several places before they ended up there, on one of those shelves. I once discovered a French book of 1973 and I bought it for less than 2 EUR! How great is that? The café area has been set in front of a small counter. There are some small round tables and old armchairs and sofas in the room. People there, work on their computer, chit chat, play cards, read a book or sometimes play chess. The prices are pretty low. Actually it is probably the best quality-price ration I’ve had in town. So, to sum it, this is not a trendy hipster coffee shop selling classy and expensive snacks and drinks, like so many others in Berlin, that you will surely find on the first page of Tripadvisor, but it is a convivial, cheap and casual place to hang out.
If you have ever dreamt of hanging out and drink a beer in the famous MacLaren's Pub of the How I Met Your Mother series, don't search anymore, it is in Berlin! Of course this is not the original bar and I don't think that any of the series producers had anything to do with the project. However it is really worth a glimpse. I can so clearly picture two friends who, one day, decided that they should buy a bar, create an exact replica of MacLaren and fill it with references to the series. I bet the idea sprang out of nowhere, but damn, they did it! They successfully went about their project and I respect that! To all of you who know the series pretty well, you will understand all references on the threshold of the bar! I took a couple of pictures but of course, not of everything! I'd rather leave a part of mystery for the curious out there who would like to go take a look themselves! But among others, you will find the famous paintings of "Naked Marshall" and Barney, you can get your "intervention" with a cold beer and try one of the various cocktails, such as the Minnesota Tidal Wave or the Robin Scherbatsky. Prices were reasonable, I'd say, although slightly more expensive than in other neighborhoods (like Neukölln, for example). In any case, if you just want to grab a beer or a cocktail, and if you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop there and go inside to appreciate the unique universe they created!

It has by far one of the best quality-price ratios. Starting at 4,40 EUR for a simple burger, Burgermeister offers about ten different kinds of quality burgers. The meat tastes like real chopped steak, the vegetables are fresh and the bread is crusty. Burgermeister has two locations in Berlin, one in Kottbusser Tor and the other one in Schlesisches Tor. At Schlesisches Tor, you should know that you will only find a small window in a tiny room located right under the train tracks. But that is what makes it special! People queue outside to try this famous burger. You can sit at one of the tables in front of the said window or you can take away your order and go sit in a park or alongside the Spree, which is only 5 minutes away, waling distance. The Kottbusser Tor location has a classic inside room but keep in mind that it is not a nice restaurant. Burgers are served in a carton box, whether you take it away or not. Jones Ice Cream is probably the place where I had one of the best ice creams of my life. Of course I cannot objectively say that this is the best ice cream place in Berlin, since I have not tried more than two or three different ones, but it is by far a must-try. The cones are made in front of you in a waffel iron. You could find the shop only by following the tasty smell of freshly baked thin waffles. The ice creams and sorbets are homemade and the assortment varies depending on the season and the availabilities of the products. My favorite flavor so far: grapefruit sorbet and earl grey.
