Here is another secret of Berlin that is no longer a secret! Since everybody likes to talk about it on their blog or on social media, (just like I’m doing it now!), the concept is no longer exclusive. The idea is that you can join a Facebook group to give your stuff away or to get some stuff for free. Everything on the group must be free. If you want to sell something you will find other groups for that. This one is called “Free Your Stuff Berlin”. You have to send a request to join the group but you will be accepted for sure within a couple of hours. Today, there are around 115,500 members on the group!
So you might ask, why do people not prefer to sell their stuff? Well, I don’t know but I personally see it as a way to get rid of your old stuff without spending hours on a second-hand website, taking and uploading pictures. This option is fast and free. Once you posted your ad, your piece of furniture will be gone in the next hour! And if you really want to go get something for free, you should be ready to race. Refresh the Facebook page as often as possible to be the first to see the new ads and if something really interests you, I would advise you get in touch with the owner immediately. And if they say that the article is available right away, just GO! Otherwise someone will be faster than you. I once wanted to go pick up a ping-pong table. I literally contacted the owner 4 minutes after he had posted the ad. He told me I could come right away, but I needed some time to find someone to come with me, as I don’t own a car and would have needed to carry it in the train. Anyways I sent him a message like 20 or 30 minutes later saying that I could come. But it was gone already. For quality objects or pieces of furniture, competition is harsh, and it works on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Regardless of my personal experience, I do find the concept really interesting. You will find everything on this page; pieces of furnitures for apartment mostly, but also clothes, food, technology material, pet stuff and actually even pets sometimes. And from time to time, you stumble upon something really weird or unexpected, but that’s what makes it so much fun! It really is worth taking a look! And, who knows, maybe you will find something you really like and if you decide to go get it, I can only wish you the best of luck! |
